Portrait of The Who

The legendary British rock band The Who was founded in 1964. Unusual concerts became its main feature. The peak of the collective's fame was in the 60s and 70s. Today, it consists of only two musicians — Roger Daltrey and Pete Townsend. During all this time, only 6 people performed in The Who, three of whom, unfortunately, are passed away.

The Who originates from The Detours, founded by Roger Daltrey. Only 5 years later, the musicians realized that a group with this name already existed and changed it. The first success came to the band in 1964, when its advertisements could be found anywhere in London. At the same time, there was a conflict between Daltrey and guitarist Pete Townsend, who took the leadership. It all came down to a fight and Roger's apology.

The band's popularity grew slowly. Due to legal problems, The Who was forced to begin touring the United States, where their corporate identity caught the attention of the public. During the trips, the musicians destroyed hotels, which could not go unnoticed by listeners and critics. They became a cult band in the United States, but at the same time the band began to be forgotten in their homeland.

It’s all was well until 1978, when drummer Keith Moon passed away from a pill overdose. The audience thought that the group would break up, but the musicians found a replacement and continued to tour the United States. The next blow was Pete Townsend's alcohol addiction, which later led him to use cocaine. Subsequently, the guitarist barely survived after an overdose, and the album It’s Hard flopped, which led to the collapse of the band in 1983.

Over the next 17 years, the musicians occasionally gathered to give concerts. Only in 2000 the resumption of regular concert activity was announced. The first tour went off with a bang, so the announcement of a new tour was just around the corner. Unfortunately, in the summer of 2002, John Enwhistle died of a heart attack, so The Who had to play with a new bassist. Over the past 35 years, the group has released only 2 albums — Endless Wire in 2006 and Who in 2019. If you want to continue the band's path and play their songs, then the lyrics and chords posted on our website will help you.
