When we say we love listening to music, we usually mean exactly songs, and the most important part of them is human voice. Sometimes we even attend life concerts of our favorite singers, though with some bands it’ll be quite difficult. For example, if you are a big fan of Gorillaz, you are hardly ever able to visit their concerts. The uniqueness of the band is that it’s a fully virtual musical group.

The idea to make up a virtual band appeared in 1998, when Damon Albarn (previously having been the frontman of Blur) and Jamie Hewlett (the designer and comics writer) were watching MTV. They thought it was stupid to watch MTV for a too long time and decided to make just the computer animation of this process. It was called “Ghost Train” and was released in 2001.

The debut plate was sold in seven million copies, and that was something outstanding. This achievement was the reason why Gorillas appeared in the Guinness Book of Records as the most successful virtual band. In 2001 they were even nominated for Mercury Prize, but asked to be eliminated.

The next Gorillas’ album was even more famous – it became five times platinum in the UK, two times platinum in the USA. It was awarded Grammy in 2006 and got some other awards.
